Water Stop Information
General Information
AORTA’s Saturday group runs normally feature water stops approximately every 2.5 to 3 miles. While these water stops are primarily provided for AORTA members, non-members participating in our group runs are also welcome to use them.
Volunteers are an important part of making our Saturday runs possible. The information below explains how to sign up for a water stop, when it should be set out, what supplies are needed, and where to pick up AORTA water stop signs and coolers.
How to Sign Up for a Saturday Water Stop
AORTA uses SignUpGenius to coordinate Saturday water stops. All water stop sign-ups should be made through the AORTA WATER STOPS SignUpGenius page.
You do not need a SignUpGenius account to volunteer, although creating a free account makes it easier to manage your signup and receive reminders.
If you sign up for a water stop and later find that you are unable to provide it, please return to the SignUpGenius page as soon as possible, locate your signup, and click the “X” to remove your name. This will reopen the water stop so another volunteer can sign up.
Saturday Water Stop Setup
IMPORTANT: Water stops must be set out Saturday morning and ready for runners by 6:00 AM.
Please do not wait until the group run begins to set up your water stop. Runners start at different times and paces, so the water stop needs to be in place before the first runners head out.
Minimum Recommended Supplies
- AORTA Water Stop sign
- Cooler and ice
- 1 gallon of water
- 5–6 32-oz. or 2–3 64-oz. sports drinks (such as Gatorade or Powerade)
- Include both regular and zero-sugar sports drink options
- 30 small cups
- Trash bag for used cups, bottles, and other trash
Please check and clean up your water stop by approximately 10:00 AM.
Afterward, please keep the cooler and water stop sign for future water stops. If you do not plan to volunteer for another water stop, please drop them off on the front porch at 640 Delwood Drive, Auburn.
Where to Pick Up Water Stop Signs and Coolers
AORTA water stop signs and coolers are available at:
1536 Professional Parkway, Auburn, AL 36830
Pickup hours are:
- Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM–12:00 noon
The signs and coolers are located in the room next to the back door.
If you are unable to pick up supplies during these hours, please email clemster@aol.com to make alternative arrangements.
